Great, great, great, incredible, life-defining sort of vacation. I am truly blessed to be able to do things like this with my happy family.

Scotland Wrapup-

First week, we stayed in a castle. Yes, really. They rent them. They actually rent castles. It's called Saddell, and here is its wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddell_Castle. Sadly it had no internet, but who gives a flying cracker. It was a castle. I was staying in a castle. There were battlements. It was right on the World's Coldest Ocean, but there were ducks and birds and evil spiky plants and just the most wonderful, wonderful air of timelessness.

After that, we stayed (limited internet again) at a lovely little lodge on the River Ness, and went down to the loch and saw their castle and the museums, though no Nessie.  I have crosstiched and plan to make bookmark gifts for various relatives.  There were more ducks here, and birdnests.

I am still slightly jetlagged, but hopefully updates soon on comics, pets, and those essays I talked about, which are almost done and rambling but interesting.

So, we went up to the mountains last weekend.  I love the mountains, but I've gone on and on about that loads of times before.

We actually started out at my grandparents' up in Winston Salem, and got to be at their 50th anniversary party.  Yay, party.  Thankfully it was small and there was a garden to escape to.  Also most of those in attendance were relatives.  Sunday, however, we got to head up to the mountains.

No hiking this trip, but the weather was great, crisp and cool.  I did a LOT of drawing and some writing, but all of it was longhand in my Mountain Notebook.

The most fun part, however, was actually shooting stuff with the BB Gun.  I've decided I need to learn how to shoot if I'm going to live alone in the mountains when I grow up and be a crazy hermit, but it's one of those things I've done a couple of times and sucked at.  In the mountains, however, I utilized new concepts such as "aiming" and I think I'm shaping up to be a decent shot.  Knocking over cans was fun.  Eventually, I want to use the actual shotgun, but I think we're going to have to leave the yard to do that.

So, yeah.  I have been behind in math.  Behind behind.  Like, been taking the class since August when it's supposed to last two or three months, and still not done.  I have procrastinated, I have failed, I have screamed in frustration- and upon learning about how much I still had to do I may or may not have hidden in a little ball and sobbed louder than the two month old Neighbor Baby.

Because yeah, I was bleeping stressed.  I've made a lot of progress this year- I've got friends- with an s on the end!  Multiple friends!- I had a birthday party, I got over 200 reviews on Crashing in Time, I finished about a tenth of NaNoWriMo and I finally began to figure out foreshortening in my art-  but a large part of my mind still firmly believes that if I fail a school class, I could find the Holy Grail and it still wouldn't be enough to <s>not disappoint my father</s> have a non wasted year.  If I couldn't pass a class, I might as well be back in Hellhole On Earth Senior High.

But I am not.  I am at Run By Angels On This Green Earth BEST SCHOOL EVER, and according to my math teacher who is INCREDIBLE and PATIENT and has the FORGIVENESS OF A SAINT, I have done enough work to pass.

I am seriously jumping for joy.  Well, actually, I am writing an essay for Honors Genocide And Human Nature (yes I AM, mom, don't worry...), but that is now my ONLY class besides Medieval History (which is online) that I still have huge amounts of work in.  And not actually that huge.  They seemed huge this morning, but that was before I did most of them.

In other news:  Dear Section of My Brain That I Do Not Control, I do not know what possessed you to think that licking the fern would solve all of my problems.  The timing was coincidental.  And it did not taste very good, either.

But seriously?

Thank you, Ms DeLong!  Thank you, mom and daddy!  Thank you, Jesus!
