Dad says Luke's doing better!

Also:

A list of ten characters from different fandoms:

l.  Darth Vader (SW)
2. Luke Skywalker (SW)

3. Aang (AtLA)
4.  Guy Gardner (DC)
5.  Hazel (Watership Down)
6.  Cassandra Cain (DC)
7.  Toph (AtLA)
8.  Ice (DC)
9.  Deadpool (Marvel)

10.  Hermione Granger (HP)

l...Divide the list up by Even and Odds. Which group of characters would make a better Five-Man Band? Who would you slot in each position; Leader, Lancer (2nd in command), Big Guy, Smart Guy and Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the Even and Odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Group One: Vader, Aang, Hazel, Toph, and Deadpool. Yes. Well. Toph would be the Big Guy, and that’s the only one that jumps out at me. Hazel would be the best Leader, closely followed by Aang, but I can’t see Vader letting anybody else be in charge... Deadpool isn’t really a Smart Guy, but he’s definitely a Talky Guy. Chick just tends to be “the nice one.” So my lineup? Aang as Leader, Vader as Lancer, Toph as Big Guy, Deadpool as “Smart” Guy, and poor Hazel being the NonAction Rabbit Chick.

Group Two: Luke, Guy, Cass, Ice, and Hermione. Ice is the Chick, in all the best ways one can be the Chick- nice, more powerful than she lets on, and together with the Lancer, who is of course Guy. And in their canons, Cass is kickass, Hermione’s a genius, and Luke always seems to end up in charge. This one was much easier. Luke as Leader, Guy as Lancer, Cass as Big Guy, Hermione as Smart Guy, and Ice as Chick.

2. Gender Swap Two, Eight and Ten. Which characters would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believeable as the opposite sex?

Luke’s story arc… In story, I can’t actually see it being much different. In theory at least, SW seems to be pretty gender equal, so he could still get his opportunities. Meta-wise, it would mess up the parallelism between him and Anakin a bit, but I personally think that’d just make it more interesting.

Ice… The fact is I know very little about her backstory, but I’m pretty sure she came from somewhere where the women weren’t even supposed to have powers, and she overall is sweet and innocent and very typically feminine much of the time. Her story arc would probably change drastically, and she’d almost certainly stay in Norway and never end up being a superhero, and as a result the JLI would be much less fun.

Hermione, I can’t see much changing at all. Hermione’s always herself.

3...Compare the matchups of One and Eight, and Five and Nine. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment). Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home cultures?

Vader and Ice. Excuse me, that’s the sound of me screaming. Admitteldy, in canon, she puts up with Guy Gardner for the most part, because she can see that deep down he’s a good guy, and so I could maybe even see her trying to redeem him- but it wouldn’t work. Again, the only reason she puts up with Guy is because of what she sees, and I can’t see her tolerating someone who’s genuinely evil as opposed to just obnoxious for very long. It wouldn’t work, and Guy would be spending the entire type alternately slumped in his bar and trying get the Green Lantern Corps to declare war on the Empire.

Hazel and… You know what? No. I’m not even going to go there. Watership Down is a book with too much dignity to go around inserting it into Deadpool/rabbit pairings.

4...Your team is Three, Four and Nine. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Aang, Guy, and Deadpool. Oh, just lovely. First off, Guy and Deadpool should stay as FAR away from the social challenge as possible, leaving Aang there by default. Deep consideration of Green Lantern Ring versus Healing Factor leave me deciding that it’s probably better to play it safe and give Deadpool the physical challenge. That leaves Guy with the mental one, and you know, he might actually be able to do it. He’s smarter than he lets on, provided I am allowed to use current!Guy, or, better yet, pre brain damage, pre Lantern, teacher!Guy, who would kick the mental test’s ass.

5...Number Seven becomes Number One's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's the working relationship?

Toph as Vader’s boss. Oh, I need this. I need this SO BAD. Vader would be hostile and angry and force chokey, and Toph would not give a darn. She’d throw rocks at him and bend his prosthetics if it got serious and she thought her life was actually in danger, and she’d give him an insulting nickname and… Oh, I NEED this.

6...Number Two finds him/her/itself inserted in Six's continuity. As far as anyone other than Two or Six is concerned they've always been there. What role would Two be presumed to have had in Six's story, and could they fit in without going wonkey?

Luke Skywalker in DC Comics. I think he could do it. He’d have to be a superhero, of course, with some sort of Evil!Cosmic Entity!Vader as his father, and a cape and idealism. He’d probably get along as well as anybody does with Cass, particularly if he worked closely with the Bats. The Bats are good with parental angst, and they could all have mope parties together until Luke decides he’s had enough and is going to go redeem his dad. Maybe Cass comes along to help out, since “redeeming” her father’s not an option. And her costume makes her look like Vader, too. This could work.

7...Three and Five get 3 wishes. The catch is they have to agree on all 3 wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What 3 wishes would they make?

Aang and Guy. This should be interesting… Alright, Aang is an idealist, and Guy tends to actually get along pretty well with idealistic rookies, though he’s caustic, but Aang deals with Toph. So they’d wish for world peace, and then Aang would wish for his people back and Guy would let him, though it’s not that good an idea, and then it would all go wrong, but Guy would try to lighten the mood by getting Aang to wish for a tropical bar and Katara in a bikini.

8...One and Two are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control, to attack and kill Four. They have their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any code vs killing has been turned off. Can Four survive? How?

Honor Guard Green Lantern Guy Gardner versus Jedi + Sith. I think he could survive, though we’re getting into tricky waters. For one thing, Guy fights pretty dirty, and he has more ranged attacks. A Lantern Ring could probably make a forcefield capable of holding two guys with lightsabers, and then it’s just a matter of calling in some favors… I’m sure somebody with psychic skills owes Guy a favor… and getting the mind control off somehow or waiting for it to wear off.

9...Six, Seven, Nine and Ten must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a Merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least, the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Cass, Toph, Deadpool, and Hermione. Deadpool can be Santa, and he will teach the children many fun new words. Hermione can brighten up and decorate the place and give Santa a lecture on how he needs to be nicer to his elves. Cass could probably sympathize with depressed small child, but she’d have a tough time with it, and in the end I think the experience would be as good for her as for the kids. And Toph can brighten any party.

10...Three and Eight are challenged to circumnavigte the Earth in 80 days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or wil lthey be fatally distracted by side quests or their own personality conflicts?

Well, Ice and Aang will get along, and Ice at least will be mission focused, though I’m not sure I can say the same for Aang. Aang does, however, have a lot of experience with forms of transportation invented before 1900. They can probably do it, but they’ll spend a bit of time sightseeing and rush in just before the deadline.

... I must admit I'm tempted. It's just the PLAUSIBLE. It's the PLAUSIBLE I require that throws me.
