Overall, an Exciting Weekend

We saw bears.  Wild ones.  Four of them.

To be more specific, four bears were spotted.  I only saw one, and no individual family member saw more than three.   Three were in the yard at various times of the day, and one was on top of the mountain, seen only by mom, as she was hiking ahead of the rest of us.  The one I saw was wandering through the yard, presumably in pursuit of food and following the flattest path that wasn't the forest road.  It left quickly after briefly sniffing at the cars.

Now, remember, folks: Do not feed bears.  Do not play with bears.  Do not follow bears around into the woods.  Retain a deep, deep respect for and distance from the bears.

Anyway, still sure y'all wanna stay at the mountain house?

... I'm never going anywhere NEAR that house.

Hey, c'mon, it's part of nature! It's very good that bear populations are recovering!

C'mon, they aren't as dangerous as cougars, and there's only /rumors/ of those in the area.

Personally, I can't wait to go back. I hope I get to see a bear (but I would like to stay far away from it and just observe.) Very cool.

Seeing them in the yard from the porch was pretty cool, actually. Daddy and Grandaddy deciding to follow it into the woods was not.

I absolutely agree. Your mom said the bears are really not aggressive and just want to get away from people so the guys probably weren't in any danger but still.... I wouldn't actually follow a bear. I think you and I are both smart to try NOT to make someone with three inch claws angry! Hope to see you Saturday. Give me a call when you get home. Jody and I are going to Visart Friday so I will see if they have Avatar Season Two for rent while I'm there. Kisses-
